A carefully structured education, brought to life through curiosity, creativity and real-world learning.
At Ambleford School, children learn through a balance of strong core teaching, meaningful projects, outdoor experiences and creative exploration. Our curriculum is designed to help children build secure academic foundations while developing confidence, independence and a lifelong love of learning.
Strong foundations
Reading, writing and maths are taught through carefully sequenced programmes.

Project-led learning
Children explore rich themes that connect subjects together making learning purposeful.

Outdoor and practical learning
Learning is active, meaningful and often hands-on. Children approach the outdoors with a sense of freedom.

Mapped for progression
Our curriculum supports children to build knowledge and skills over time. Learning is secured not rushed.

Our Approach
Our curriculum is inspired by Scandinavian educational values, where children are trusted as capable learners and learning is purposeful, practical and connected to the world around them.
We combine clear teaching in core academic skills with topic-based projects, outdoor learning and creative enquiry. This allows children to develop the knowledge they need while also becoming curious thinkers, confident communicators and independent problem-solvers.

English – Children develop confidence in reading, writing, speaking and listening through a rich language curriculum. We teach phonics systematically, encourage a love of reading and provide meaningful opportunities for children to communicate, create and share their ideas.
Mathematics – Mathematics is taught through a mastery approach that develops fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills. Children build secure mathematical understanding through practical experiences, discussion and carefully structured learning.
Science & Discovery – Children investigate the world around them through enquiry, experimentation and observation. Scientific learning is often linked to wider projects, helping children develop curiosity and a deeper understanding of how things work.
Humanities – History and geography help children understand their place in the world. Through stories, research, fieldwork and discussion, children explore communities, cultures, environments and significant events from the past.
Creative Arts – Creativity is woven throughout life at Ambleford. Children have opportunities to explore art, design, making, music and performance while developing confidence in expressing their ideas.
Outdoor Learning – Regular outdoor experiences form an important part of our curriculum. Time outside supports wellbeing, resilience, teamwork and practical learning while helping children build a strong connection with nature.
Computing – Children develop an understanding of technology, digital safety and computational thinking through age-appropriate experiences. Our focus is on using technology thoughtfully and responsibly.
Personal Development – We place great importance on helping children become kind, confident and responsible members of their community. Children learn about relationships, wellbeing, citizenship and how to contribute positively to the world around them.
Physical Development – Children participate in a range of physical activities that develop coordination, strength, balance, teamwork and confidence. We focus on enjoyment, participation and developing healthy habits for life.

Many of our projects and enquiries are inspired by internationally recognised curriculum frameworks and adapted to reflect the interests, needs and ages of the children in our school.
Our curriculum is carefully mapped against the National Curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. While our approach to learning is distinctive, we maintain high expectations and ensure children develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for the next stage of their education.
